“I needed a change. I was working from home in Ireland. I was doing 5 days a week in the same bedroom, looking at the same four walls everyday. When you’re finished work, you’re back in your apartment again. I moved over here on a whim, and here I am.
“Main intention was to come over here for the ski season. I always wanted to do one (here). Went over to France before and done two months there. My job finished, so I just got on a plane and went over for two months. I was like alright, I’ll do it over here, but that didn’t work out unfortunately. Was meant to be working out in Whistler for the season but I couldn’t find accommodation. I had to get a different job in Vancouver. I can’t ski during the off season, so I’ll buy a Jeep instead.
“Back in Ireland you’re right by the mountains, so it’s a similar kind of vibe here, except on a whole different level. I find them pretty similar–Vancouver is actually riddled with more Irish people than I expected…there are so many Irish people. Even after two months, I’m definitely going for permanent residency straight away. I love it. There’s more opportunity in Vancouver than there is back in Ireland.
“I’ve got a lot of good friends back home. I thought it was going to be tough leaving them, but if I didn’t do it now, I’d never do it–I’m nearly thirty years-old, I can’t be sitting around in an office for the rest of my life.
“Can you tell us about a fond memory you have with your friends in Ireland?”
“Jeez. Oh my god my memory is really foggy right now. Hmm…fond memory. I can’t actually think of one. It’s ‘cause of these fuckers *pulls out blunt*”
