“This is my husband. We got married before the pandemic in February — right before everything shut down in Cabo — so we’re pretty lucky. It was an all-inclusive wedding; we mainly had close family and friends — around forty-five people, which is pretty big for a destination wedding. It was really cool to have all of [them] in one location.

“It’s funny because we weren’t even friends [in high school]. We weren’t even in the same crowd. He was two years older. We reconnected at a bar in the hometown that we’re both from and we bonded over pizza. He moved to Toronto that year, because I was going to college in Toronto. He followed me. We’ve been together ever since.

“I would say that we’re opposites [but] we have similar interests — we both like to get out and do stuff. We’ve learned a lot from being together for so long...communication and how to keep each other happy with food and beverages, being together and enjoying the little moments. He would definitely say my love language is gifts. We love to get each other things, and we love to buy and make food for each other.

“What advice would you give to your younger self?”

“Be patient and kind to yourself, because things will change. Don't change the goal, change the plan. We moved from Toronto to here, and we never thought we’d be in that position, but we always knew that we wanted to move, travel, and experience different cities. Follow your heart and be patient along the way. Plans change.”
